Happy New Year!

2012! I'm sitting on the couch in my living room in Basel, surrounded by little stacks of things to do: bills I just paid, letters I haven't yet read, letters I haven't yet written, old things brought from California that need a new home in my new home, navy blue sweaters to put away. Andrew's plane should be arriving in Copenhagen in about 15 minutes. (Bet I won't have finished writing this by then.) I'll need to deal with all the piles tonight, because tomorrow our new roommate arrives and will be staying on the couch until the old roommate officially moves out on the 6th. Change! Two days ago I came back from a great, full, warm, busy, well-fed trip to California and Texas with a lot of new things: several navy blue sweaters, a big tub of vitamin C, two new suitcases filled with favorite old things, and, best of all, a husband. Indeed! We got married sooner than we said we would, partially because of visa reasons (this way I'll be able to work as soon as I move to Denmark in August) but also because it felt like the right thing to do. It was nice! Our parents were there. The weather was good. The building was beautiful. We met up with a justice of the peace at the Texas State Capitol building in Austin, had a swift little ceremony, then wandered around on the Capitol Grounds before heading back to my mom's house for champagne and a walk around the park. Here we are, in the Rotunda:

It was a nice thing. We'll still be having a big party, of course, next summer, so we can celebrate with all our friends. For now we're back to normal, living separately, doing our stuff. School starts up again on Tuesday, I'll be playing a solo in a class concert on the 12th and I still haven't chosen the music (whoops), and then four weeks later the semester will be over and I'll be on Winter Break for a month. I'm planning on taking the train up to CPH with my bass and hanging out for a few weeks, practicing while my husband works, eating good food and drinking nice beer with him when he's not working. This is what married people do, right? I'll let you know for sure once I find out.
