cold snap

It's in the 30s again, oh well. To be safe, I brought my little pots of dirt inside, and I was rewarded heartily:
lettuce! well, ok, the lettuce started coming up a couple days ago. but, not a lie, these are new:
chard!  (two of 'em!)
a pea!

And, for kicks, here's the weird meal I cooked up for myself.  I got the idea of polenta and fried chick peas from Mark Bittman on the NY Times website, in two separate recipes.  And, actually, the video about the friend chick peas cut out after about a minute so I don't really know what he was going to do with them.  I saw the olive oil in the pan part, which seemed important, and which I successfully replicated.  I might have added some other vegetables to the fry if I'd had any, but everything at the grocery store looked bad, so I decided to wait it out until Saturday, when I can go to the farmer's market.  Choosing no food over bad food.  Sigh.
