not as funny as the last post, sorry.

Took some pictures of school today. Have nothing witty to say about them. Sorry. Here they are.

going in through the front gate, on Leonhardstrasse.
Looking back at the gate (the gap between the two buildings). There are several buildings all surrounding a courtyard, which make up the Musikhochschule (basically, Music Conservatory). The one toward which those two girls are walking is the school for "regular" classical music; the brown and white one on the left is the building for the Schola Cantorum, which is Medieval through Classical periods only. The building on the right there has the larger concert hall in it. (I think. I gave myself a cursory tour but my German is still abhorrent and so I could have wildly misconstrued what the signs said. If so, I won't tell you, because you'll never know the difference anyway, Ha.)
Schola building, and another building which seems to have a smaller hall, and practice rooms.
Is it weird to include a picture of a toilet? I thought this was a rather exceptional specimen.
The second (first, if you're European) story of the Schola building always has incredible flower arrangements. This and the next photo are from this week's.
What is this? If only I knew. There were a bunch of them.

Speaking of extraordinary things, I went to this incredible thrift store today. Everything was organized by type, and there were great window displays, which were impossible to photograph because of the glare. One had 15 pair of scissors all hung quilt-like with fishing line. Another had atlases and antique suitcases; another had an entire windowsill lined with playing cards. There were about five things I wanted desperately but only with difficulty talked myself out of buying. One, a handmade wooden box full of beautiful, wooden, handpainted dominoes. Another, a typewriter that uses the Cyrillic alphabet. Of course they exist, but I'd never considered it before! (I didn't actually want to buy that, I just got excited about it.) Another, this set of plates with these sweet (sweet as in nice, and also sweet as in awesome) pastoral scenes painted on them, and the edges of of the plates looked like lace, but were made out of porcelain; I wanted to be a grandmother already, and serve little cakes to my grandchildren on them. Why didn't I take pictures of this stuff? I didn't want to be rude. Is it rude? It seemed like it might have been rude. I'm overly cautious in that area. I'll give you a little taste of something I did buy, though.
stocking up on the classics out hereAn important moment from Switzerland's past, no doubt

Goodness, I nearly forgot the best thing I saw. A photo album from August, 1926, with photos from a couple's trip through France. The images on the first page were of Mont St Michel and they had that glowy, ethereal beauty that really old photos have; sepia, and oddly lit, in a magical kind of way. Makes you think the places have a real personality, more than in the true-to-life photographs we make these days. Anyway. It was 50chf, absolutely out of my price range, but so, so great. Things! I don't need them! But I want them! How infallibly human of me.
